Virtual Technology Review in Healthcare
Virtual reality (VR) is the capability to interact with a digitally replicated object or environment that is similar to an actual-world experience for the user. In medical settings, the technology can be used to enhance movement for rehabilitation patients or to relax and distract patients during medical procedures. However, VR is in its early stages of adoption and use in the practice of clinical medicine. This article offers an overview of the barriers and facilitators to the implementation VR in healthcare settings.
The majority of the obstacles found in this study were related to the adoption system and organization categories of the NASSS framework, specifically the need of healthcare professionals for education and training on VR, the lack of research and evidence about the added value of VR in the treatment context, and the perceived low self-efficacy, confidence and willingness to apply and use VR during the course of patient care. Numerous studies have recommended the use of behavioral modification techniques like education and training or intervision groups to assist clinicians in their decision making process with regard to VR use.
Facilitators were not often recognized for reasons such as the younger age of patients who may be more open to new technologies and feel more comfortable using it or the fact that VR could create an immersive and interactive learning environment that stimulates the senses and fosters greater understanding of complicated scientific concepts. VR’s ability to simulate real-world scenarios, such as the surface or structure of why not try here atoms, is a powerful educational tool that lets students investigate and experiment with abstract and complex concepts.
